Step 1
Plan ahead. Few North Carolina furniture outlet stores have the facilities that large retail showrooms do. Begin your trip knowing what you'd like to purchase. It's wise to bring fabric swatches or paint colors with you so that you can see if the piece will work well in your room.

Step 2
Visit High Point. High Point, North Carolina, is located in the north central part of the state, not far from Winston-Salem. The city, dubbed the "Furniture Capital of the World," has over 60 showrooms and factory outlets in High Point and surrounding areas that are open to consumers.
-
Step 3
Take a trip to Hickory. Just down the road from High Point, about half way between Winston-Salem and Asheville, lies Hickory, North Carolina. The city is home to major furniture manufacturers, such as Henredon, Drexel Heritage and Broyhill. Many have showrooms that give consumers an opportunity to buy directly from the factory.

Step 4
Be prepared to take your purchase with you. Not all outlet stores offer delivery services. Even when the store does offer delivery, that charge may eat up all of your savings, depending on how far from North Carolina you live. Rent a van or an SUV for your shopping trip and remember to bring old blankets and other packing material to insure your purchase makes it home safely.
