How to Use Turn Signals

Every driver knows they need to use their turn signals. However, not all drivers use turn signals. A refresher course on how to use turn signals is often necessary. Sometimes your children may remind you to use your turn signals, but in case you don't have children, the following will help you remember how to use turn signals.

Instructions

    • 1

Review your driver's manual. The driver manual isn't just there for you to use when studying for the driving test, it should be used to refresh your driving every now and then.

    • 2

Change lanes. Whenever you are changing lanes, you should use your turn signal. This will let anyone driving around you aware that you are going to make a move.

    • 3

Use your turn signal always. Even if you don't see anyone on the road, you should use your turn signal. This accomplishes two things. It keeps you in the habit of using your turn signal and it makes everyone else know you are planning the move--just because you don't see anyone, doesn't mean no one is there.

    • 4

Signal to make a turn. Every turn you make requires you to use your turn signal. You need to indicate that you are turning, so the other drivers, as well as pedestrians, know you are turning.

    • 5

Avoid accidents by using your turn signal. If other drivers see that you are trying to change lanes, they may slow down or even wave you over, whereas if they don't know your intention they can't help you.
