How to Bond With Students

Whether you're teaching children or adults, it is important to form a strong bond with your students. The following steps will help you and your students to get to know each other better so that you'll create a long-lasting bond that stretches beyond the classroom. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

    • 1

Get to know your students on the first day of class. Play some fun icebreakers so that you can all get to know each other before you jump into the content of the course.

    • 2

Care for your students. If you notice that one of your students is having a rough time in your class, talk to him and offer extra help sessions after school.

    • 3

Start off each class by chatting for a few minutes with your students about their interests or what they did over the weekend.

    • 4

Plan interesting and fun lesson plans that call for a great deal of student interaction so that you continue to get to know your students throughout the semester.

    • 5

Have periodic, creative parties in class to reward your students for their efforts. If you're teaching a French class for example, have everyone bring French food to the party and turn on some French music.

    • 6

Take field trips with your students so that you have a chance to get to know them outside of the classroom.

    • 7

Attend sporting events or performances that your students are involved in and congratulate them on their performance.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have a good sense of humor. Joke around with your students from time to time, and use humor in your lessons to get your point across.
