Step 1
Find a domain auction website. There are several available; see the Resource list below for some of the more popular domain auction websites.
-
Step 2
Follow the auction website instructions for signing up for memberships. Some websites will charge a fee for joining; others will charge a fee equal to a portion of the sale of your domain.
-
Step 3
List your domain for auction. Each auction website is different. Look for "sell" links and provide the information required about your domain. Most websites will have an opening bid price and a time limit on the auction
-
Step 4
Answer emails and questions as potential buyers consider bidding on your domain. Answer these quickly, preferably the same day that someone asks you a question. Check your listing daily for activity and questions.
-
Step 5
Contact the winning bidder after the auction ends. Do this as quickly as possible. Each auction website has different features, so you will want to find a way to send the winning bidder an invoice or request for payment.
-
Step 6
Collect the payment for the auction. There are several auction payment services out there. Read through the auction website for the payment services they offer.
-
Step 7
Release the domain to the auction winner. Follow your web host instructions for transferring domains.
