1. Decide whether you want a wet or a dry pail. A wet pail has water or a cleaning solution in it, while a dry pail has only the diapers. Some people find that a wet pail works best for them because their diaper get cleaner once they have been soaked, while others find that wet pails are messier.

Portable ones usually look like a "tote" and have strings, while the ones that you use at home usually look like a trash can or disposable diaper pail. If you don't go out often or use disposables while you are out, then you may want to purchase a larger home pail.
3. Determine what sized pail that you will need, based on your diaper load and the space where you would like to keep the pail. If you have multiple children in diapers, a bigger pail may be better, but harder to find space for. If you have just one child in diapers, then a small pail may work just fine.
