Computers are no longer items for the sophisticated and wealthy. Many households are purchasing a personal computer, commonly referred to a PC. These PCs, however, can be a noisy addition to the home. Here's how to build a quiet PC to reduce indoor noise pollution.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn what makes most computers noisy in the first place. Find a book on building PCs at the book store or a library. The fans inside the computer make the loudest noises. These fans cool off the internal parts that get hot because of electricity in such as small area.

  2. Step 2

Look for a beginner's guide on building a PC. Ideally, a book containing pictures and illustrations further help a beginner build the quiet computer.

  3. Step 3

Find a PC expert to help you build a quiet PC. A computer retail shop should help you find an expert on building a quiet PC. A good PC expert has knowledge of several different ways to obtain computer parts and knows the best parts to use. He'll advise you on purchases so you don't waste your money.

  4. Step 4

Search around for PC parts. Look for quiet fans or cooling units for the computer. Youll find these parts at specialty computer stores, or browse Internet computer retail shops for quiet PC parts.

  5. Step 5

Use the latest technology. New computer cases are being acoustically designed to soften the sounds from a PC.

  6. Step 6

Shop around for CPU cooling devices to help eliminate the need for loud cooling fans. These devices are manufactured with materials that allow a more efficient cooling effect.

  7. Step 7

Replace the power supply with a newer, quieter power supply available at computer stores and Internet computer outlet stores. Try using a heat sink on the motherboard to spread the heat over an area so that cooling fans don't have to work so hard.

  8. Step 8

Tighten all loose parts including screws. Make sure the motherboard and all drives are secured in their places, and be certain that all parts fit the PC you are building.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid working in a place with static build up. Static build up damages hard drives and other computer components.
  • Never build a PC or work on one with magnetized tools. Magnets can damage hard drives and computer components.
