How to Plan a Summer Weekend in the Great Outdoors
What better way to reconnect with your family than by planning a fun summer weekend in the great outdoors. Hiking, swimming, reading and board games are just a few of the activities planned for this getaway weekend. Packing all the camping essentials will ensure that you will be safe and dry all weekend long.
Instructions

Packing
-
1
Pack a tent and tarp to protect you from rain.
-
2
Make sure your sleeping bag is tested for cold weather. Even if you are camping in the middle of the summer, nights can be very cold, especially in the mountains.
-
-
3
Bring plenty of changes of clothes and shoes. Nothing will ruin a summer weekend in the great outdoors like wet feet. Bring at least one extra change of warm weather and cool weather clothing.
-
4
Bring along a fully stocked first aid kit, in case of any mishaps.
Cooking
-
5
Plan the entire weekend's menu in advance. Select easy to make items, such as cereal for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch.
-
6
Make up a big pot of stew or chili ahead of time. You can simply reheat it over your campfire for an easy dinner.
-
7
Pack the cooking essentials, such as a can opener, salt and pepper, a cooler, bottled water and cooking utensils.
-
8
Bring along plenty of easy to store snacks, such as fresh fruit, granola and trail mix.
Activities
-
9
Map out a hike before you leave for your weekend camping trip. If you have young children with you, consider how far they can hike before getting tired.
-
10
Schedule in some down time. Go swimming and lay on the beach (or river bank) and just relax.
-
11
Pack a couple of board games and a deck of cards for some evening entertainment.
-
12
Bring along easy to pack outdoor games, such as Frisbee, baseball and touch football.

Bring body heat patches, for warmth. These come in handy during a cold night, Thermacare works too but not the medicated kind.
