If you are thinking of home schooling your children, you are not alone. Thousands of American families are opting to teach at home. Finding resources for home schooling can seem a bit overwhelming at first with so many curriculum programs and textbooks available. However, some of the best teaching material for home schooling is through hands-on experience as well as interacting with other home schooling families.

  1. Step 1

    Contact your local state government for laws pertaining to home schooling resources and curriculum. This is where you will find information on the necessary annual assessments all home schooled children must take.

  2. Step 2

    Join any local home schooling group or association. This will put you into direct contact with other home schooling families, who can offer support, advice and resources.

  3. Step 3

    Visit local museums and living history centers for lesson planning materials that relate to their exhibits. Not only does this provide you with lesson resources, a visit to a museum makes for a fun field trip.

  4. Step 4

    Connect with your local church for materials related to religious studies. Youth ministers and Sunday school teachers are a great home schooling resource.

  5. Step 5

    Take your child to a local orchestra concert or other musical show as a fun way to learn about music.

  6. Step 6

    Look for information on study topics at the local library. Not only will it have hundreds of books to choose from, they are all free.
