We've all heard the rumors surrounding bootcamp from all angles of the military. Bottom line, it's not easy but the rewarding aspects come after the civilian becomes a soldier. The transition may not be easy for some; however what may help is knowing what to expect before you embark on this physically and mentally exhausting challenge. Here is a bootcamp survival checklist to help you prepare.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to your military recruiter and make sure he answers any and all questions you may have regarding boot camp. Ask him what you should expect and above all how you can prepare.

  2. Step 2

Exercise and then exercise some more. Start by running every day as well as doing push-ups, sit-ups, crunches and pull-ups. The more you get your body into shape before you leave, the easier the physical aspect of bootcamp might seem and the easier your survival will be.

  3. Step 3

Study anything and everything about all the branch of the military that you can. If you start to learn about the ranks and the maneuvers that are unique to the branch you enlisted in, the less stressed you will feel when you are actually given the material in a more highly-stressed situation.

  4. Step 4

Practice basic training tests, such as making your bed correctly or cleaning up your room in a certain amount of time. Put some items from the basic training list that each branch gives you into a box, dump the contents of the box all over the floor and mess it up. Then organize the contents in under a minute. The faster you are in bootcamp the less the drill instructor will yell at you and the greater your chance of survival will be.
