The Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is a popular service provided by Juno, a US Internet Service Provider (ISP). VoIP uses high-speed Internet lines for local and long-distance calling. The analog signal of the telephone is digitized, encoded and encrypted before it is transmitted through the Internet. Using the Juno VoIP isn't that difficult once you know what is involved.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how you want to make VoIP calls. There are three ways: through your personal computer, through a VoIP-powered telephone or through an ordinary phone. The most important requirement for any of the three media is high-speed Internet.

  2. Step 2

Use the computer to call your friends without spending much money. You need to buy a headset that you can attach to the computer, usually through the USB port. Then download Juno VoIP software and ask your friends to download the same software.

  3. Step 3

Transform your phone to an Internet phone. To do this, you need to install Juno VoIP software on your computer. Once the Juno VoIP software is installed, just add your contact and start talking.

  4. Step 4

Get the Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA) if you don't want to use a computer and you travel frequently. The only thing you need to do here is to get the ATA attached to a broadband modem.

  5. Step 5

Use an IP phone to call like you use a conventional handset. It has all the required software installed in the phone itself. One connection to a broadband modem is required.
