Step 1
Know that telecommunications covers the various employment areas of voice, video and internet services. This also includes cable and satellite programming and telephone and wireless services.

Use the different research avenues available to you to get a basic list and descriptions of telecommunications jobs that are out there. This could include anything from a Line Installer to an Executive Marketing Manager.

Talk with telecommunications professionals. Contact professionals in the areas of telecommunications that interest you the most and ask about their job. It is best to ask them for a short meeting and tell them who you are and why you are interested in their field.

Step 4
Notice the differences. Literally make a list of the different telecommunications jobs you have found and list their different job tasks by each one. This will help you find the differences between them. Many of them require much of the same schooling, but hold entirely different purposes.

Take a test run. Find an internship or job shadow opportunity with the area of telecommunications you are most interested in. Ask questions throughout the day to get a better understanding of the job description in that particular field.
