Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Risk Game
-
Step 1
At the beginning of a game, if you have the option to select territories, try to secure one continent that will be easy to defend. These are Oceania, South America and Africa in that order. Is you have the countries automatically selected for you, assess which one will be the easiest to capture.
-
Step 2
Secure the borders of your continent by reinforcing them with as many troops as possible. Use two or three troops to knock out other countries within your continent that are being held by other players. In the event that someone is matching your placements in a country, assess whether or not you are likely to beat them in securing it. If not, abandon it in favor of an easier target. The goal is to secure a continent losing as few troops as possible.
-
Step 3
Use the armies that you gain from holding a continent to reinforcing it. For examples, you receive three bonus armies for Africa, so you would place those in the three countries that border other continents in order to have a stronger defense.
-
Step 4
With the other armies that you are awarded, which should be at least three a turn, build your land by picking off countries that only have one army defending them. This will allow you to build your land total as well as give you a chance at taking other continents. Leave at least two armies in each country so that it is more difficult for other players to take them from you. Be sure to take a country every turn in order to gain cards.
-
Step 5
When receiving cards, try and hold on to as many as possible before trading. You can have a maximum of five cards, and it is advisable to wait to trade them until the number they will trade for is higher. If you have a wild card, try and save this for a time when you may need it. If you have someone break into your continent, that is a good time to trade and reclaim it, using the extra armies to reinforce it.
-
Step 6
In the event that you are losing and have to defeat someone with a large amount of continents, focus on breaking into their continents to lower their awarded armies. It is better to break continents than to take a large amount of land. If it is harder for your enemy to recover, it will buy you more time to rebuild your forces.
