With an artificial tree once it is open check and make sure that all the color coded pieces are in the box. Verify that it comes with a stand that will save an extra trip back to the store. Please do not use electric lights on a metal tree. Discard any lights that are frayed or broken.

If you just want the sent of a live tree in the house then start looking early for a good tree don't buy it if it is dry and dropping needles. To check for freshness, grip the end of a branch loosely. Make sure if you buy from a vendor they cut a fresh cut an inch from the bottom. This will allow the tree to drink water properly.

If you buy the tree early then store it away from wind and sun, and keep the bottom of the tree in a bucket of water. Remember with a live tree you will need to purchase a tree stand. If a tree seems wobbly in a tree stand center it in the stand and redo the bolts or screws. Try to place the tree near outlets so that you will not have to use additional cords. Please make sure you turn off the lights on a artificial or live tree. Always make sure a live tree has plenty of water in the tree stand.
