The luxurious comforts of feather pillows contribute to a more restful night's sleep for many. Feather pillows will be a little more expensive to buy than regular pillows and will require a bit more care to maintain them. Follow these steps when washing your feather pillows to keep them looking and feeling great.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Use your machine to wash your feather pillows. This requires that you place them in the washer two pillows at a time to keep the load even. The machine setting should be put on cold or warm.
Step2
Add a reduced amount of gentle detergent to wash load.
Step3
Set your machine to the gentle wash cycle. Run the rinse and spin cycles twice. This is to ensure all soap and water have been extracted from your feather pillows.
Step4
Gather some clean sneakers and add to the dryer when placing your pillows in to dry. This will reduce the lumps and maximize the fluff of pillows as the sneakers gently beat the pillows as they tumble. Set the dryer on its lowest setting. Stop the dryer every so often to manually fluff them yourself and then place back inside the dryer. This will require longer drying time than normal pillows. You want your feather pillows to be lump free.
Step5
Drop off your feather pillows at the dry cleaners as an alternative to cleaning them yourself.

Tips & Warnings

  • Toss in a sheet of fabric softener when drying for added freshness.
  • Place your feather pillows in the dryer when you just want to add more fluff when not washing.
  • Older feather pillows may not withstand the cycle of a washing machine. The dry cleaners is the best option for these.

on 3/29/2008 Another good resource for how to wash a pillow is http://www.beddingcare.com. I personally bought some pillows on http://www.shopdownlite.com and they were really good and the staff helped me pick the right density and fill for how I sleep.
