Things You'll Need:
- Dresser assembly with hardware
- Carpet or cardboard
- Carpenters' glue
- Screwdrivers
- Hammer
- Safety glasses or goggles
-
Step 1
Unpack the dresser assembly. Lay parts out on a carpeted or cardboard covered floor. Group the hardware items according to type and ensure you have all parts needed. Lay the back panel of the dresser finished side down on the floor covering.
-
Step 2
Insert drawer guides and fasten them to the sides and middle support with staples or screws as needed. These usually come installed, but not always.
-
Step 3
Affix sides and middle support to the back. The pieces are usually pre-drilled and the sides and back have tiny dowels that fit into matching holes after you place a drop of glue in each hole. These can be reinforced with screws, also, but ensure they aren't long enough to come through the back panel.
-
Step 4
Attach any support legs to the unit.
-
Step 5
Fit the front panel onto the dresser unit after placing glue and dowels into pre-drilled holes, aligning it carefully. It may need to be strengthened with connecting plates and screws hidden inside the unit.
-
Step 6
Turn the dresser right side up and check for wobble. Ensure it is sitting on a level surface. If there is wobble, turn it back over and install plastic foot pads and casters as needed.
-
Step 7
Place the top on the dresser unit, after gluing dowels in the pre-drilled holes on the top, and placing glue into holes on the dresser frame.
-
Step 8
Assemble drawers, if they came unassembled. Normally, you only have to attach drawer fronts to the remainder of the drawer. You may have to run a thin bead of glue into routed joints along the drawer sides and slide the bottom into the joints before attaching the fronts.
-
Step 9
Install drawer sliders as needed. These usually come already attached, but if not, ensure you put them in the right place. Slide the drawers into the completed eight drawer dresser.
