How to Play Blind Dominoes

Blind Dominoes is a game that is unique because the players don't know which tile they are using until they play it. It's a game of chance and not much skill because all unplayed tiles are hidden from view until it is time to use them. This game is easy enough to be played by kids of all ages.

Things You'll Need

  • A 28 tile set of double-six dominoes
  • 2 to 4 players

Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle the tiles face down and draw to see who goes first. The highest number of total pips on the tile is the first player and play moves around the table clockwise. Re-shuffle the tiles to make the boneyard.

    • 2

Draw tiles from the boneyard depending upon how many people are playing. For two players, draw 14 tiles; for three players, draw 9 and for four players, draw 7 tiles. Keep all tiles face down and players should not look at them or show them to any other player.

    • 3

Arrange your tiles in front of you side by side in a row or column. Decide from which end you will start play on your tiles and remain starting at that end. In other words, if you decide to turn over tiles right to left, you cannot switch and start turning left to right--it must remain the same throughout the game.

    • 4

Turn over your first tile if you are the first player and place that tile in the middle of the table as the first play of the game (unless there are three players in which case there will be an extra tile not drawn and that will become the first tile).

    • 5

Turn over the next tile in your row and play it if you can by laying the end of the domino next to a matching end of pips on the first tile set. Keep turning over your tiles in order, placing them if you can.

    • 6

Turn your tile back over if you cannot place it in the game and the turn goes to the next player to the left. Leave the tile you cannot play face up and below your row of tiles if it is a double. You can choose to use that double any time during the course of your turn.

    • 7

Continue playing in this manner until a player runs out of tiles or no more moves can be made. The winner is the player with the fewest pips in his hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also play the game of Blind Dominoes so that each player plays one tile each, if they can, per turn.
