The Chevron cross stitch is a fairly simple stitch that is used mainly to create borders in a counted cross stitch project. The Chevron cross stitch is worked from left to right and is stitched in actually three squares, with the main part of the stitch remaining in the center square. Follow the steps below to add the Chevron cross stitch to your current cross stitch project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Aida fabric
  • Tapestry needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Thread the tapestry needle and tie a knot at the end of the working thread to secure the first stitch in place.

  2. Step 2

Bring the threaded needle up through the lower left corner of the first square where you want to begin stitching your chevron cross-stitches.

  3. Step 3

Go up to the center top of the square in a diagonal fashion and insert the needle there.

  4. Step 4

Come up through the bottom right corner of the square and bring it diagonally up toward the top center once again, inserting your needle when you get there.

  5. Step 5

Bring the needle up just to the left of the bottom left corner of the square. You will go about one fourth of the way into the square before the square you have been stitching.

  6. Step 6

Take your needle down and go one fourth of the way into the worked square, forming a half straight horizontal stitch.

  7. Step 7

Repeat the same process to create another half horizontal stitch that starts a fourth of the way into your square and ends a fourth of the way into the square to the right.

Tips & Warnings
