Determine what size you need. Think suit jacket sizes when it comes to buying a men's bathrobe. A chest of 34 to 36 inches is a small, 38 to 40 inches is a medium, 42 to 44 inches is a large, 46 to 48 inches is an extra large and 50 to 52 inches is an extra-extra-large. If you aren't sure what size the man in your life is, sneak a peak at a suit coat in his closet, or check the size of a pull-over shirt he has; the sizing for the bathrobe will be analogous.

Pick the material for the robe. The climate where you live and when the man in your life likes to wear his robe will determine the fabric. There are light robes like silk and terrycloth for warmer climates, and heavier robes like flannel and fleece for those brisk winter mornings. Truthfully, this comes down to preference. If you can get the guy in your life to actually set foot in a mall to go shopping, then you can have him try a few on and see which one he likes the best before you buy it.

Scan for sales at the store. There is no reason to buy anything at full price in today's economy. Department stores such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Target, K-Mart, Wal-Mart and more are always slashing prices to stay competitive. Look for sales on men's bathrobes especially during the holidays toward the end of the year and in June just prior to Father's day.

Buy the men's bathrobe online. Some fantastic sites specialize just in bathrobes. Look to Internationalrobes.com or cottonplace.com for high quality garments that will keep the man in your life comfy all year round.
