How to Join a Moose Lodge

The Loyal Order of Moose is a nonsectarian and nonpolitical fraternal organization dedicated to serving others. While only men can belong to one of 2,000 moose lodges in the U.S., Canada, Bermuda and Great Britain, women may join a related organization, the Women of the Moose.

Instructions

    • 1

Be at least 21 years old and of good character. Although the Moose once required that a member be Caucasian and not married to a non-Caucasian, this is no longer the case.

    • 2

Possess a belief in a supreme being. It isn't necessary to be a Christian but a religious belief of some kind is expected of Moose members.

    • 3

Be willing to pledge your loyalty to the aid of children and your fellow men and women.

    • 4

Ask among your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to find one who is already a Moose.

    • 5

Ask the Moose to sponsor you as a new member in his lodge.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Moose was chosen as the symbol for the organization because despite its size and strength, it is not a predator. It lives peacefully with the animals around it unless its young or elderly herd-mates are threatened, when it then becomes a fierce protector.

  • Much of the work being done by the Moose is directed toward Mooseheart, a facility that houses and educates children and teens in need, and Moosehaven, a retirement community for Moose and their spouses, but the Moose also support our national parks and participate in activities that benefit their local communities.

  • One of the best things about being a Moose is the variety of social events you and your family can participate in from sports tournaments to arcade games to dinner and dancing.
