How to Read Coffee Grounds

Coffee ground reading has been practiced in the Middle East and Asia for centuries, as a way of foretelling one's future. While such psychic arts are not something easily taught, it can still be fun to practice your intuitive skills by trying out the practice with your own cup of coffee.

    Things You'll Need

    • Turkish coffee
    • Pot
    • Spoon
    • Cup and saucer
      • 1

Prepare your coffee by boiling one cup of water and adding a heaping spoonful of coffee grounds to the pot. It is best to use Turkish coffee, the traditional coffee used for readings. Turkish coffee has a very fine grind and will leave distinct patterns in your cup. After adding the coffee, stir and make a wish, and wait for the water to boil once again.

      • 2

Spoon the frothy top of the coffee into the cup first, then fill your cup. Drink your coffee leisurely and enjoy. Remember that if you drink your coffee in a hurry, without the intention of having the grounds read, the grounds will not show any meaningful pattern. Meditate on your reading while drinking your coffee for a more accurate and spiritual reading.

      • 3

Finish your coffee, leaving a bit at the bottom with the coffee grounds. Cover the top of your cup with the saucer and shake the cup slightly. Flip the cup and saucer over and place the saucer and upside-down cup on the table. Allow your coffee cup to drain thoroughly.

      • 4

Flip the cup right-side-up once the coffee has thoroughly drained. Observe the patterns made on the inside of the cup, taking note of your intuitive impressions. Begin the reading at the handle, working clockwise around the cup, ending again at the handle.

      • 5

Practice and write down the impressions that come to you as you are reading the grounds. You should not think too much about the reading as you are doing it. Just let thoughts and images come to you. Observe your coffee grounds for at least ten minutes, writing down your impressions as you go.

      • 6

Repeat this process regularly to grow spiritually and increase your intuitive abilities. You may find your first few reading reveal little, but with time and patience you will see the patterns changing with your moods and soon the impressions you note during the readings will relate to your life in general.
