Almost everyone is aware that April 15th each year is the deadline to file federal income tax. However, there are many important tax deadlines that are not as well-known. If you don't pay a tax that is due by the tax deadline date, you may have to pay substantial penalties. Find the tax deadlines you need to pay your tax on time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out the tax deadlines for paying estimated federal taxes. If you're self-employed, you must file your taxes quarterly. Taxes are due on the fifteenth of April, June, September and January of each year.

  2. Step 2

Pay your state tax quarterly if you live in a state that has state tax and you are self-employed. The deadlines for state tax is the same as federal taxes but check your state to be sure of the correct tax deadline date.

  3. Step 3

Check to see if you're responsible for any city or county tax, if you are self-employed. Call or visit your local city hall to find out what tax you have to pay and when the deadline is to pay it.

  4. Step 4

Call your state department of revenue for the form you need to remit sales tax each month. If you own a business that collects sales tax you must send that into the state monthly. Find out the deadline date for your state and remit by this date so you don't incur penalties.

  5. Step 5

Assess the amount of tax due on an inheritance. Not every state has inheritance tax. But if the state where the person died has state tax, then find the tax deadlines to pay this tax by contacting this state.
