Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wire brush
  • Spray-on grill cleaner
  • Sanding pads
  • Grill primer
  • High-heat enamel paint
  1. Step 1

Spray the entire inside bottom of the grill with a grill cleaner/degreaser. After letting it sit for several minutes, scrub it with a wire brush to remove built up grease and grime.

  2. Step 2

Wipe off the loosened buildup with a rag or spray off with a garden hose.

  3. Step 3

Clean the grate using the same degreaser or purchase a new grate. Several grates now come with expandable sides to fit many sizes of grills.

  4. Step 4

Check the grill burner for excessive rusting. If the burner is too rusted, it's time to invest in a new one. Burners with uneven sized holes will cook food unevenly.

  5. Step 5

Remove the control knobs from the front of the grill and clean the surface with grill cleaner.

  6. Step 6

Remove rust and scale from the entire outer surface of the grill. Use a sanding pad and scrub until the surface is cleaned. Use a rag to wipe off the dust.

  7. Step 7

Spray paint the cleaned exterior surfaces with a coat of primer, then follow with a coat of high heat enamel paint. Use paint that's made for use on metal.
