How to Play Boss Dice

Boss Dice, a dice game based on Poker dice is a very popular game in San Francisco. This game is usually played between two players who take turns rolling five dice in a dice cup to try to achieve the highest Poker hand. The following steps will show you how to play this exciting dice game.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• 2 players
• 5 dice per player
• Dice cup

1. Instruct both players to roll all five dice at the same time in the cup to determine who goes first. The highest-ranking Poker hand on the dice is the "Boss" which is the first player. If there are no poker hands on either roll, players must roll again.

2. Set the dice aside that you would like to make up your Poker hand from this initial roll if you are the Boss. Roll the rest of the dice to try to get the Poker hand you are trying for, keeping the dice you are rolling hidden under the cup.

3. Call "Pick them up!" if you believe it is unlikely you will win with the hand you have thrown. Both players then start all over again and the round is thrown out.

4. Call "Come Up!" if you think you do have a chance to win with the hand you have thrown. Pass the turn to the next player.

5. Keep some of the dice from your initial roll and roll again if you are the second player in the game or roll all five of your dice again, hiding the dice you have rolled under the cup.

6. Win the round if you have the highest Poker hand. If both players have the same ranking in their hand, the round is thrown out and the round is played over.

7. Win the game if you win two rounds out of three.

Tips & Warnings

• Boss Dice hands rank highest to lowest in this order: Five of a Kind, Four of a Kind, Full House, Three of a Kind, Two Pairs and One Pair. Highest numbers (6 is highest) beat the lowest numbers in the hands.
• A Straight is not a legal poker hand in the game of Boss Dice.
