How to Enjoy Disney's Typhoon Lagoon

According to Disney legend, Typhoon Lagoon is all that remains after a devastating storm hit a once-beautiful tropical island. To visitors of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Typhoon Lagoon is a spectacular water park, boasting the world's largest outdoor wave pool and the opportunity to swim with sharks. With attractions geared toward guests of all ages, Typhoon Lagoon is a treat for the entire family.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang Ten in the Surf Pool. Guests eight years of age an older can take surfing lessons, catching waves as tall as six feet. Younger and less adventurous visitors can enjoy bobbing in the calm waters or body surfing on less intimidating waves.

    • 2

Speed down one of three enclosed water slides on Humanga Kowabunga. Guests travel at speeds over 30 miles per hour, making this one of the park's most exhilarating rides. The slides are over 200 feet long with drops over 50 feet.

    • 3

Grab an inner tube and ride around the park on Castaway Creek. This long river is a relaxing attraction and a fun, convenient mode of park transportation. Ride the slow current to reach distant areas of the park in lieu of walking.

    • 4

Ride the Crush 'n' Gusher, a one-of-a-kind uphill water coaster. Two-person rafts take visitors on a wild flume ride through a former fruit exporting factoring destroyed by the legendary typhoon. There are three distinct slides, each of which is over 400 feet long.

    • 5

Head to Shark Reef to swim with sharks and other tropical fish. Disney provides visitors with snorkeling equipment for no additional charge, but guests can use their own masks. To spend more time with the sharks, the park offers supplied air snorkeling lessons for about $20 per half hour.

    • 6

Board a four person raft and ride the rapids of Gangplank Falls. This twisting tube ride takes guests through caves, rain forests and waterfalls. This is a great family ride with no age or height requirement.

    • 7

Have a blast on the Storm Slides. With feet first, visitors ride down one of three body slides into a cool, refreshing pool.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ketchakiddee Creek is a splashy play area for young ones 48 inches and shorter.

  • Guests can rent lockers and towels, for an additional fee. Life jackets are free but guests must leave a driver's license or credit card as a deposit.
