How to Recarpet a Cat Condo

As any cat owner knows, cats love cat condos. But the carpeting in cat condos wears out, especially if your kitty has claws. So if it's time to recarpet your cat's condo, here are some tips to help you with the task.

Things You'll Need

  • Hammer
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint
  • Carpet remnants or samples
  • Sharp knife
  • Carpet tacks
  • Carpet glue
  • 3/8-inch rope

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the carpet out from the cat condo. If possible, take the carpet off in whole pieces. You can then use those pieces as your patterns. If the scratching ropes are in bad shape, remove them as well.

    • 2

Clean the exposed wood if there is any on your cat condo. Sand it and repaint it, if necessary.

    • 3

Visit the local carpet store and see if it's giving away any carpet samples. If not, pick up some carpet remnants. Realize that all the carpeting may not match, if you use samples or remnants. It all depends on what's available.

    • 4

Cut the carpet pieces to fit the spaces on the cat condo. If possible, cut them large enough to allow you extra room to work.

    • 5

Remove hard-to-reach sections of the cat condo. They are easier to recarpet, if you can reach them easily. But if they're too hard to remove, cover their surface on the condo.

    • 6

Recarpet the wood of the cat condo. Use glue to attach the carpet as well as carpet tacks. A staple gun also works well. Carefully trim any excess carpet.

    • 7

Re-attach the scratching rope if you took it off. Start at the bottom and wind it around the pole. Put glue on the pole as you wind the rope up it.
