Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick a vehicle that fits your needs. For instance, electric RC cars come pre-assembled or in kits to build on your own. Depending on your skills or your preferences, you may like one option better than the other.

  2. Step 2

Determine the type of terrain your vehicle will be traveling. As a hobby, many enthusiasts run their vehicles over rough, hilly terrain, smooth racing surfaces or a mix of both. Choose the type of terrain you want your vehicle to be prepared for, and select a vehicle that is proper for it. For instance, trucks are good for rough hills and don't crash as easily. Cars are excellent for racing surfaces. Buggies are good at both and have increased durability.

  3. Step 3

Fit your budget. RC cars can run anywhere from $15 to $400 depending on the manufacturer, size and quality. Set a budget and stick with it.

  4. Step 4

Purchase extra accessories. If you buy a car that is ready to go, you may still need an additional battery pack or replacement parts in case of a crash. For kits that need to be assembled, you'll need to make sure you have a motor, a radio and receiver, a speed control and a servo.
