Customizing old station wagons can be a fun hobby for the car enthusiast. There are many ways in which to accomplish this. Lowering your station wagon, shaving door handles and adding to or taking away from the interior can change the style.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what kind of customizing you want to do to your station wagon. Most people this day and time want to lower the ride of a station wagon. Some people might want to raise the ride of a station wagon and put a 4-wheel drive train under it. In other words, you might take the station wagon body off of its existing frame and put it on a 4-wheel drive frame.

  2. Step 2

Shorten the top of a station wagon as a way to customize. This is a complex procedure. When you shorten the top of a station wagon, you must rework all of your doors and all of your windows. You must be an excellent welder in order to accomplish this. You must get custom glass made when you do this.

  3. Step 3

Take the handles out of the back doors of your station wagon. This is called "shaving." In most cases, you weld up your back door seams and the spaces where the handles were. This gives you a slick, smooth look as you customize your station wagon.

  4. Step 4

Customize the wheels and tires of your station wagon. There are various styles to give unique looks to wheels and tires. You can get low profile tires and bigger rims. This allows your eye to focus on your rims instead of your tires. Some people like standard rims. In this case, the focus is on the tire and rim together.
