How to Replace LCD Projection TV Lamps

After several years of use, the LCD lamps in a rear projection TV may need to be replaced. If you have an extended warranty on the TV, then you can possibly have it serviced at no charge to you. However, if your warranty has expired, then you'll need to replace the lamps on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the lamps that you need for the LCD TV. These lamps can be bought directly from the company that manufactures your television.

    • 2

Turn off the TV and unplug it. Let it sit for at least half an hour before you replace the lamps. This gives it time to cool down.

    • 3

Take off the lamp cover. Most of these covers can be removed with a screwdriver.

    • 4

Remove the old lamp. Each TV is different, but most models allow you to simply pull the lamp out.

    • 5

Slide the new lamp into the hole where the old lamp used to be. Once it is in place, you should hear a clicking sound.

    • 6

Replace the lamp cover. Once the new lamp has been installed, you can screw on the cover again. Discard the old lamp carefully. Use the appropriate receptacle to dispose of it.

Tips & Warnings

  • The average lamp life differs from television to television. On average, LCD TV lamps can last anywhere from 3,000 to 8,000 hours.

  • Don't attempt to replace the lamp without giving the TV time to cool down. The surrounding lamps will burn your fingers.

  • Don't touch the glass of the new replacement lamp if you have any oils on your fingers since it can damage the lamp.
