The projection bulb that Vizio uses in its LCD TVs is the workhorse of the machine. The bulb often stays on for hours at a time so you can enjoy your favorite movies, shows and video games. Because they get such heavy use, bulbs are some of the most commonly replaced parts in LCD televisions. Vizio makes it easy to replace the bulb yourself and save money on repair costs.

Step 1

Turn off and unplug the TV. Wait about 30 minutes to allow the bulb to cool down enough for you to handle it.

Step 2

Turn the TV so you can easily access the bulb compartment on the back.

Step 3

Use the flathead screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the bulb compartment cover.

Step 4

Remove the two flathead screws on the bulb enclosure. Use the handle on the enclosure to pull it out of the TV.

Step 5

Use the pliers to unscrew the nut on the back of the bulb.

Step 6

Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw on the back of the bulb.

Step 7

Locate the two metal clamps on the sides of the bulb.

Step 8

Grasp the end of one of the clamps with the needle nose pliers. Push it down and then pull it to the side to unlock it. Repeat this step for the other clamp.

Step 9

Pull the bulb out of the enclosure.

Step 10

Place the new bulb in the enclosure. Handle the replacement with a lint-free cloth to avoid getting oil and dirt from your fingers on the bulb.

Step 11

Replace the clamps, the screw and the nut.

Step 12

Put the bulb enclosure back in the TV and replace the two flathead screws on the enclosure.

Step 13

Place the enclosure cover back on the TV and secure the two screws.
