Since 1950, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been the premier event for fans of bagpipes and military bands. The Tattoo, attended by over 200,000 people each year, features military bands, particularly bagpipes and drums, and display teams. It is held at Edinburgh Castle over the course of 3 weeks in August, with performances every day but Sunday. To attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Start planning early. Not only do tickets to the performances sell out as early, flights to Edinburgh and hotels fill up quickly.
Step2
Order by mail. An order form is available for completion from the Tattoo website, usually beginning in October prior to the Tattoo. Mail orders, complete with payment, are required to be in Edinburgh by mid-November. Orders are processed in early December. Email confirmation is the only form of order confirmation.
Step3
Book over the Internet. In early December, the Tattoo's secure server website offers Internet bookings. A maximum order of eight tickets is allowed; best-available seating for the ticket price is assigned. A small booking fee is charged.
Step4
Place a phone order. Telephone bookings begin in the middle of December. A booking fee is charged; payment is only by credit or debit card.
Step5
Buy at the ticket counter. Visit the Tattoo Ticket Sales office in Edinburgh for tickets. The ticket counter is the only place to buy tickets on the day of the performance.
Step6
Check with a third party. Some travel agencies or tour companies may be able to obtain tickets for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
