How to Influence Co-Workers
With any job, cooperation among co-workers makes the workday smoother, whether you work at an office, a construction site or a health club. Occasionally, workers find need to spread their influence, and doing so in the right way can make a world of difference.

1
Make sure you're on the same team. If you are working on a team project, make sure everyone in the group is on the same page when it comes to the group's objectives and what the finished project should include. Likewise, knowing what your boss is after from your project can be a great bargaining tool. People are more willing to listen to a co-worker if they think she knows how to please.

2
Do your part to keep lines of communication open. For example, if you have a co-worker that might be in a situation you have already dealt with, a friendly e-mail with suggestions, or even just a little bit of sympathy, can help immensely.

Stay within your boundaries. Telling people what they should do in an abrasive manner is one quick way to get your co-workers defensive, especially if they hold the same position as you do. The way you phrase things is key. Try giving polite suggestions and avoid sounding arrogant or superior.
-
4
Gain the trust of your co-workers. Proving yourself honest and trustworthy will pay off over time. Once your co-workers know you aren't going to turn around and stab them in the back, your influence will be greater and therefore team projects will run smoothly. Remember, peer pressure doesn't end with your high school graduation, but it doesn't have to be a negative thing.
