How to Close a Yahoo! Mail Account

You may no longer wish to have a specific email address and want to get rid of it. Most free email account sites however require you to delete the whole identity, not just the email account. You will not be able to use the identity to login to other parts of the sites. If you do need to delete your email account on Yahoo, follow these simple steps.

Instructions

1. Open your Internet browser and navigate to the Yahoo! Account Deletion page (address is given in the "Resources" section below).

2. Sign in with the Yahoo! ID and password that you wish to delete. You will also be asked to enter a confirmation code that is displayed on the termination page. After you have read over the page, enter the confirmation code and click "Terminate This Account" button.

3. Cancel any premium services prior to deleting your Yahoo! account. Yahoo! does not guarantee that payments will not be deducted during the 90 day cancellation period.

4. The deletion will be finalized within 90 days. You will not have access to your Yahoo! account during this time.

Tips & Warnings

• Be sure to copy any information from the account that you may need before termination. It is also a good idea to do a mass mailing from your address book to those that you want to have your new address. Any subscriptions to Yahoo! groups will be cancelled.
• You will not be able to reactivate your Yahoo! account once it has been closed, but will be required to sign up for a new account.
