How to Change the Default Font in Outlook Express

The default font that is used in Outlook Express is Arial. All emails and newsgroup messages will be displayed and sent in this font unless you change it. The process of changing the default font in Outlook Express is a simple and straightforward one that will take you only a few minutes to complete.

  1. Step 1

    Open Outlook Express onto your desktop so you can make changes to the Outlook Express default settings.

  2. Step 2

    Choose "Tools" and click on "Options" to bring up the "Options" dialog box.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Compose" tab in the "Options" dialog box.

  4. Step 4

    Use the mouse to click the "Font Settings" button under "Compose Font" and next to "Mail."

  5. Step 5

    Select the font that you would like to use as your default font in Outlook Express.

  6. Step 6

    Click the "OK" button to close the "Options" dialog box and change the default font that you are using in Outlook Express.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can change many default settings and appearances in the "Options" dialog box.
  • If the default stationery is defined in Outlook Express, it will not accept your default font change unless you undefined or changed the default stationery.
  • If you would like to change the default font for newsgroup messages, click on the "News" tab in the "Options" dialog box and click "Font Settings" to choose the default font you wish to use for newsgroup messages.
  • In earlier versions of Outlook Express, you can change the default font by choosing "Stationary" from the "Tools" menu, clicking "Font Settings" and then making the appropriate font change.
