Step 1
Consider the Eclipse CD1000 or CD2000 for an affordable upgrade to your current car stereo. These models do not have all the options of the higher end models, but they do have upgrades such as the ability to play MP3 and WMA CDs that many factory car head units do not feature. They also have the ability to drive more complex speaker systems, so if you're on a budget, this is a great place to start.

Step 2
Try the Eclipse CD3100 for expanded connectivity. The CD3100 has the ability to connect to an iPod, CD changer, satellite radio and HD radio. The CD3100 also has a detachable faceplate for theft determent, a 3-band parametric EQ and a crossover control. You will spend more to buy a CD3100 than you would on the CD1000, but the added features make it a good middle-of-the-road option from Eclipse.

Step 3
Check out the CD5100 for audio features and more. The CD5100 has options to enhance audio, USB connectivity and a detachable face. But the biggest selling point for the CD5100 is the Area Shot feature. Area Shot is a navigation system that is built into your Eclipse head unit. You can buy a GPS unit for your head unit that will allow it to follow your travel in real time and give you directions.

Step 4
Buy an Eclipse CD7100 for the ultimate in features and connectivity. The CD7100 features a color organic EL display with the Area Shot navigation. It has an 11-band parametric EQ, time alignment controls, a USB connector and AUX input, a twin security system and more. You will have to pay more for this model than the others, but the added features can make up for it if you have the budget.
