Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Journal
  • Crayons, markers, colored pencils, pens and pencils
  • Temperature gauge
  • Weather station (optional)
Step1
Buy a journal that's sturdy enough to hold up with high usage but not too bulky so as to hinder taking it places. Use a blank journal without lines for younger kids or those who prefer to draw. Search for a journal at a local bookstore or education store.
Step2
Gather other journaling supplies. Purchase or use crayons, markers, colored pencils and even charcoal pencils for the weather journal. Find a reliable pen or pencil that you can take with you to write in the weather journal when you are out.
Step3
Write down daily temperatures. The purpose of a weather journal is to record weather. Daily temperatures depict weather, so it's an important step in keeping the weather journal. Try writing the temperature at the same time each day to be consistent.
Step4
Draw pictures to help remember weather conditions. Images help record weather and weather patterns such as storms and storm damage. Add photographs to the pages of your weather journal if you don't draw well. Write captions to the pictures to make a permanent record of the moment.
Step5
Record your own thoughts about weather in the journal. Feelings and emotions are as important as the weather itself.
