You choose your groomsmen because either they are close friends or relatives that wish to be part of your special day. However, there may come a time during the wedding-planning process that you grow apart with one of your groomsmen. You may have had a fight or the groomsman is not performing his wedding duties. In this case, you may feel that you need to fire him.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Let your fiancée know about the situation first. You can discuss the best way to fire the groomsman without causing too much of a scene. She can perhaps offer alternative ways that you can resolve the conflict without getting rid of him.

  2. Step 2

Set up a time to meet. It is better to fire him in person than to do it over the phone or through email.

  3. Step 3

Talk about your conflict with him. Make sure that he knows where you are coming from. At this point, he may not realize that he has done anything worth being cut from your wedding party.

  4. Step 4

Give him an easy out. You can let him know that you understand that he has a lot going on right now and that being part of the wedding may be too much added responsibility. If he doesn't take the bait, tell him outright that you would rather not have him be part of the wedding.

  5. Step 5

Offer to reimburse him the costs that he had to spend towards wedding related duties so far. However, be prepared if he takes you up on your offer.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should have a good reason to fire a groomsman. If you do fire one, you are risking your friendship.
  • To avoid firing a groomsman, only choose reliable friends and family members that you have known for a long time.
