One fabulous way to have a child remember a garden they helped plant is with a garden memory book. With just a little bit of time, you can give your child a great piece of memorabilia, give them a fun activity and teach them all about flowers and plants.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Leaves and flowers
  • Tissue paper or parchment paper
  • Heavy book
  • Construction paper or photo album with contact paper
  • Camera
Step1
Go out into your garden and have your child pick a leaf and a flower (if possible) from each plant in your garden. If you have a lawn, don't let them forget to pick a blade of grass.
Step2
Press the flowers and leaves between two pieces of tissue paper or parchment paper. Try to make sure the leaves or petals aren't folded or wrinkled when you press the flowers and leaves between the two pieces of paper.
Step3
Put the tissue paper or parchment paper between the pages of a large book such as a dictionary or a phone book.
Step4
Leave the tissue paper or parchment paper between the pages of the book for about a week. Then, carefully remove the pressed flowers and leaves from between the tissue paper.
Step5
Glue the flowers and leaves onto construction paper or slip them between the pages of a photo album with contact paper.
Step6
Label your flowers and leaves with the names of the plants. Don't forget to also label where the plants are in your garden so your child always remembers them.
Step7
Take a picture or multiple pictures of the garden and slip it between the pages as a final page to your child's garden memory book.
