How to Remove a Mud Dauber Nest

Mud daubers are wasps that build nests out of mud. Having wasps around the house is no fun. They're annoying, dangerous and even deadly to those who are allergic to them. The only way to keep wasps away is to remove their nests from the area. Luckily, you can do this quickly and safely. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a can of wasp and hornet spray. These products are available at home improvement stores and most grocery stores. Make sure to get one with a minimum spray distance of 20 feet.

    • 2

Wait until dusk, when it starts to get cooler. Mud daubers are less active at night and when the air temperature is lower.

    • 3

Spray the wasp nest with the aerosol can of wasp killer. Thoroughly soak the nest so that the spray kills the insects inside.

    • 4

Move quickly to an indoor area. Any mud daubers that get out of the nest are sure to be angry and looking to defend their nest by stinging.

    • 5

Knock down the wasp nest the next morning using a stick or long pole. Be on the lookout for any insects that are still alive.

    • 6

Dispose of the nest in a garbage can. This keeps it from being recolonized.

    • 7

Wash off any residue of the wasp nest using a pressure washer. The mud from the nest can be stubborn to remove; be patient and let the power of the pressure washer clean it away.

This article is worthless. You should never spray a mud dauber nest because the mud protects the young. Mud daubers are not aggressive and are less likely to sting than their cousins, bees and other wasps. These are beneficial, but a pain due to the 'mud' they leave on your house. I wouldn't follow any of the advice on this for mud daubers... sound more like what you'd do for a paper wasp nest.
