Things You'll Need:
- Metallic paint
- Masking tape
- Paintbrush
-
Step 1
Choose the paint to use for your doorknobs. Instead of traditional wall paints, it's best to choose a metallic paint to brighten doorknobs with a pewter, silver or gold appearance.
-
Step 2
Cover the area around the doorknobs with masking tape to avoid getting paint on the doors. Alternatively, you can remove doorknobs from the doors for painting.
-
Step 3
Place the metallic paint on a paintbrush, and use up-and-down or side-to-side strokes to cover doorknobs with paint. Even strokes give doorknobs a sheer appearance once the paint dries. Metallic paints are easy to apply with a paintbrush and dry quickly.
-
Step 4
Put another coat of metallic paint on the doorknobs as needed to thoroughly cover the entire surface. Allow the doorknobs to dry completely between coats.
-
Step 5
Give your freshly painted doorknobs a unique look by decorating them once the paint is dry. Rub on appliqués, add painted stencils or glue on metallic monograms. Choose the decorating style that works best with the room for each of your doorknobs.
-
Step 6
Secure your newly decorated doorknobs back onto their doors if you removed them, or simply remove the masking tape surrounding the doorknobs if you didn't remove them for painting.
