Forensic photography is a much needed means of documenting the exact details of a crime scene or case. Used by police officers as documentation of how a crime scene was found, a forensic photographer is pivotal in the gathering of evidence. This skill can also be used in conjunction with lawyers and building court cases.

Step1
Acquire the technical and realistic skills required for a forensic photographer. You must gain the skills required to consistently take accurate and competent pictures. You must be able to juggle all technical aspects of photography and have the eye for detail.
Step2
Practice taking pictures from difficult angles. In order to become a quality forensic photographer, you must be able to take difficult pictures of minute details without disturbing any evidence on a crime scene.
Step3
Understand all of the legal requirements of your photos. A forensic photographer must become aware of the details involved in providing pictures that will stand up in court as evidence or legal documentation.
Step4
Get an entry level job at a crime lab, police station or law firm. Experience will help you hone the skills needed to become a professional forensic photographer, and it will help open doors for your future career.
Step5
Find an accredited agency. There are few schools offering degrees or instruction for forensic photography, but there are a few agencies that will give you certification. Although certifications are not required for most positions, taking the time to learn the technical aspects will help in the field.
