How to Deal With Rape
It takes a strong individual to begin dealing with rape. Every person reacts differently in stressful or dangerous situations. Post traumatic stress disorder may follow after rape, along with a variety of ailments, so it's important to know how to deal with feelings of anxiety, depression and anger.

Contact a trusted friend or family member immediately, on who will be there for you in the long run. Emotional support is especially important right after rape occurs.

Call the police or go to the police station with that person right away and file a police report. Tell the officer you wish to prosecute the person who raped you.

Ask for a rape crisis counselor or advocate. This person will be there to support you throughout the night and into court, if the case is taken that far.

Get tested with the rape kit. Important semen, skin and hair can be collected at this time. Take a shower after the exam.

Find your own personal rape support group. Speak out to work through your feelings.

Take preventive measures, like a self defense class. Walk with a friend at night.

Realize that it's not your fault. You're a survivor, not a victim.

Keep a detailed written record of what happened, in case you go to court in the future.
Do not take a shower after you've been raped. As much as you'd like to wash off what happened, it may destroy evidence that can be used against the assailant.
