How to Deliver a Spiel

A good spiel can mean the difference between closing and losing a deal. The ability to succinctly and enthusiastically describe the merits of working with your company can persuade even the most reluctant clients to work with you. 1. Develop the shortest, most effective speech you can about the product or concept you're selling. Mention the highlights and distinctive features of the product that set it apart from those of your competitors. Keep your spiel short and punchy.

2. Perfect your tone. You must deliver your spiel with enthusiasm and authority. Learn the content of your spiel backwards and forwards and then practice adding inflection. The way you deliver the spiel can be just as important as what you say, so take the time to work on it.

3. Project the right body language. Stand up straight to convey confidence in your product as you pitch your spiel. Shake hands firmly, but not too forcefully. Maintain confident, yet easy-going body language so you appear approachable but not aggressive. Take your cues from the potential client so see if your body language is mirrored or if you need to tone it down.

4. Elicit feedback from co-workers or other people whose opinions you trust to give you an objective assessment of your spiel. Discuss points in the spiel where your promotion became sluggish or confusing and when you were over-the-top.

5. Pay attention while delivering your spiel to the facial expression and body language of the other person. Watch them to see if they look bored or uncomfortable. Adjust your spiel according to their responses. Build a natural rapport with your audience.
