Things You'll Need:
- Small screwdriver
- Jump ring pliers
- New jump rings (optional)
- New clasp (optional)
-
Step 1
Determine the problem to fix it. In most cases the "V" shaped spring is flattened or bent. If it is broken, you need to search out replacements.
-
Step 2
Take a screwdriver and gently raise the flattened banger clasp jewelry spring if it is flattened. If you open it too far, it may snap off. You don't need to open it up any wider than a little bit to get it to catch correctly.
-
Step 3
Bend the spring back with a pair of flat-nosed pliers if the "V" spring is bent. Use jewelry pliers for this to fix it, especially if you are working with a precious metal or an antique.
-
Step 4
Remove the clasp if the spring is beyond repair. Take the jewelry ring attached to the clasp and open it. A jump ring plier tool makes this job much easier.
-
Step 5
Find a replacement from Fire Mountain Gems at firemountaingems.com. They have all sorts of jewelry repair items and tools that can help you make the old new again. Get some new jump rings in a matching metal as well.
-
Step 6
Open the jump rings with your pliers and slip on the new clasp. Try one of the new magnetic clasps which are great for things like bracelets.
