So you have a necklace that you absolutely adore, but the box clasp is broken and you can't wear it. A box snap jewelery clasp on your necklace or bracelet is easier to repair than you might think, if the damage is not too severe.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Small screwdriver
  • Jump ring pliers
  • New jump rings (optional)
  • New clasp (optional)
Step1
Check to see if the "V" shaped spring on your jewelery clasp is flattened or bent. If it is just flattened you may be able to fix it easily without breaking the spring. If it's bent, you might be better off replacing the jewelery clasp.
Step2
Open up the "V" spring if your spring is flattened. Using your screwdriver, gently pry open the "V" spring just enough for it to catch on the box clasp. Go gently so you don't break the spring as you attempt to fix it.
Step3
Use pliers to attempt to straighten a bent "V" spring. Be sure to use jewelery pliers if you are working on a precious metal or a priceless heirloom to fix it.
Step4
Remove the box clasp if it has been too damaged. The spring might fail and you may loose your necklace or bracelet if it does. Use jump ring pliers to open up the jump rings that attach the clasp to your jewelery and remove the clasp from the jump ring.
Step5
Find a replacement clasp. Places like firemountaingems.com have lots of styles to choose from. Magnetic clasps are great for bracelets. Attach the new clasp to your piece with new jump rings and jump ring pliers.
