How to Drill for Oil

So you want to find out if there is a possibility of striking it rich in the oil business, or maybe just find out if there is some crude oil to drill for under your property. Drilling for oil is an investment proposition that should not be undertaken without some research and cost considerations. Here is how to drill for oil without loosing your shirt in drilling costs.

Instructions

    • 1

Analyze mineral and natural resource maps. This will give you an idea of where a good place to drill will be. Be sure to consult a geologist and other land professionals before deciding on a location.

    • 2

Have the property owner sign a lease agreement. This will in effect lease the mineral rights to you for the time and investment of your drill rig and construction costs. This is only if you do not own the mineral rights on the property you want to drill.

    • 3

Acquire a right of access to the property. You may need to cross other properties to get to the one you are drilling, so before you decide on the location, be sure you can get access to it.

    • 4

Build a road and prepare the site. The drill rig will need a roadway built and the site prepared. Take down any trees in the way and grade the site as needed to get the drill rig to your potential oil site.

    • 5

Hire a drill rig. This company will come in and set up their rig and do the actual drilling.

    • 6

Wait to see if your investment pays off. If you strike oil, then you may have made back your investment, depending on how productive a well it is. Remember to pay your property owner their royalties.

When an editor spells a form of "lose" with two o's, it's hard to imagine the rest of the article actually states anything useful. Seriously, "loosing" and "losing" are not interchangeable. So-called "editors" should be able to properly proofread their own copy.
