How to Knit a Rabbit Fur Sweater

Rabbit fur is a great material to knit a sweater with. Rabbit hair is collected from the rabbit without harming it, either by plucking by hand or shaving. Because of the hard work that goes into collecting rabbit hair, this yarn can be pricier than other materials, but the end result is priceless.

1. Choose a pattern for the style of sweater you want to make. If you are just learning how to knit, choose a very simple pattern with easy to read instructions.

2. Find the color rabbit fur yarn that you want. Buy enough yarn to complete the sweater. If you want a more durable sweater try getting a rabbit fur blend, the blends can hold up to wear and tear better and are usually cheaper than pure rabbit hair.

3. Find the proper size knitting needles for the yarn you are using. Buy two sets of knitting needles one the size recommended by the yarn and one set a size smaller.

4. Follow your pattern closely so that you don't waste yarn and your time. Knit your rabbit fur sweater in the same way you would knit if you were using regular synthetic yarn.

• If you own your own angora rabbits you can gather and spin your own rabbit fur yarn to use in the sweater. Make sure that you wash the rabbit fur before you spin it; use a mild detergent and allow it to dry completely before spinning it.
