From time to time we all get a nose bleed. They are bothersome and can create a hassle when you are in the middle of something. You can get them to stop or drastically lessen their flow with this easy treatment.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a square of toilet paper and fold it in half. Fold it in half again in the opposite direction. You should now have a piece of toilet paper that is square but smaller than the first one. Tear off the closed corner into a piece about 1-inch square. Fold this piece in half and then in half the other way. Finally fold the piece repeatedly in one direction until it is about 1/4 inch on one side and 1/2 inch on the other side.

  2. Step 2

Place the piece of toilet paper under your upper lip and press it into place against your gum at the top of the lip right under your nose. This is pressing against a pressure point that will stop the bleeding in about a minute.

  3. Step 3

Let your lip relax to its normal position and wait a few minutes. The nose bleed should stop and you can remove the piece of toilet paper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Another remedy is to tilt your head back or lay on your back with your head tilted back and wait for it to stop. This may take longer but it does work also.
  • Whatever you do, don't sniff hard. All this will do is open the bleeding part of your nose and make the nose bleed worse.

on 7/19/2009 Doesn't tilt your head back or lay down cause risk of choking because the blood will go into your thorat.

on 1/17/2009 I have suffered nose bleeds for 30 years and know how to stop the bleed quickly - so much so, that no bleed last very long any more. First, blow your nose so that it is reasonably clear. That will temporarily increase blood loss. Then, the key part of the plan - keeping your head upright, with just a slight tilt forward (so that the blood does not go down your throat, but at the same time gravity is not causing more blood flow than necessary) breathe in through the nose and breathe out through the mouth and repeat this for 10 minutes. This has the effect of causing rapid clotting of the bleed without causing outward pressure on the bleed. If you doubt this works I ask you to do this as you read this message - breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth, and you you get the picture.
