How to Collect Godzilla Toys

Many science fiction and horror movies and comic books spawn toys relating to those titles. A very popular movie figure turned toy figure is Godzilla. First introduced in Japan in the 1950s, Godzilla has attained a worldwide cult following. Hundreds of toys, games and figures in Godzilla's likeness have been created. If you love this fire-breathing prehistoric monster, chances are you want to collect the many Godzilla toys available.

  1. Step 1

    Study the history and evolution of Godzilla. Since the 1950s, Godzilla has seen several makeovers. Godzilla toys reflect how different Godzilla has been depicted over the past 50-plus years.

  2. Step 2

    Decide if you're going to collect Godzilla toys from a certain era. Some toys reflect Godzilla as he looked in the first movie, others from the 1970s and still others from the 1990s. Choose an era or collect them all.

  3. Step 3

    Check local comic book shops for Godzilla toys. Many comic book retailers carry an assortment of toys and figures in the science fiction and horror fields. Godzilla toys remain popular, and you can usually find them in such stores.

  4. Step 4

    Search on websites devoted to science fiction and horror-related toys. There are a few that offer a wide variety of Godzilla toys, figures and ornaments. Ebay is also a great site that lists dozens of Godzilla toys.

  5. Step 5

    Attend science fiction and comic book conventions. There are several that open at various times of the year in different locations, usually setting up in hotels. Vendors from all over the country display their merchandise at these conventions. You're sure to find more than a few tables stocked with Godzilla toys.

  • There are several manufacturers of Godzilla toys. The top companies are Bullmark, Marmit, Bandai and Marusan. Each has a distinctive style. Bandais are most detailed and look most like Godzilla as depicted in movies.
  • Rare, hard-to-find Godzilla toys can cost hundreds of dollars.
