2. Peruse a specialty store. A store specifically devoted to massage chairs is ideal for testing many chairs at one visit and for comparison shopping. Check your local yellow pages under "massage" for a listing of stores.

3. Be resourceful. Scour the newspaper, Craigslist, the garage sale listings and your community bulletin. You have a good chance of paying a much lower price if you can buy a massage chair secondhand or from a private owner. Be patient--a luxury item like a massage chair is not going to just magically show up in the freebies.

4. Check out a massage therapists' store or a medical equipment store. A number of stores nationwide sell tools and equipment for licensed massage therapists. Along with massage tables, oils, candles and textbooks, these stores almost always carry a few massage chairs. Similarly, physical therapists sometimes use massage in their treatment. Scan a medical equipment store for a discounted massage chair.
