How to Create a Lesson Plan

Creating a lesson plan can seem like a daunting task especially to a new teacher, but after you write a couple hundred of them you realize how routine it can be. There is a simple formula that needs to be followed to create a successful lesson plan. Take a deep breath, relax and begin the process.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start with deciding which subject you are writing this lesson plan for.

  2. Step 2

    Decide on a title for your lesson plan. This should reflect what you are teaching.

  3. Step 3

    Make sure to put your name down as the author. Also, list any resources you used in creating your lesson.

  4. Step 4

    Determine the grade level of the lesson and the length of time that it will take to teach.

  5. Step 5

    State the educational standards that are to be assessed in this lesson.

  6. Step 6

    Write down an overview and the purpose of the lesson. This will tell what should be learned and why it is useful to the students.

  7. Step 7

    Specify the skills and information, otherwise known as the objective, that you want the students to learn.

  8. Step 8

    Create a material list.

  9. Step 9

    Describe the activities and procedures that you will be using to reinforce the teaching part of the lesson.

  10. Step 10

    Check for the students understand by coming up with a list of conclusions for the lesson plan.

  11. Step 11

    Give a list of homework that the students will be responsible for. This homework should reflect the lesson that is being taught.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make one lesson plan per subject that you are teaching. If you teach multiple grade levels then you will need to make a lesson plan for each grade level as well.
