How to Set Up a Color Monitor

If you just got a new computer, you probably can't wait to get it up and running. First, though, you have to set up the monitor and other components. Luckily, computers are becoming more user friendly, so after following a few simple steps, you will be surfing the net in no time. Read on to learn how to set up a color monitor.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull all components out of the box and packaging. Make sure to place all pamphlets, inserts and cords off to the side in a place where you can access them easily later.

    • 2

Put your color monitor in the place where you want to set up your computer. Since you will need the keyboard, mouse and CPU to get your monitor running, place those where you want to use your computer, too. If you have a computer desk that you plan to use, place it there. Otherwise, a table or other flat surface works. Make sure it's near an outlet and that you have a power strip as well, because you need it to plug in both your monitor and CPU into power resources.

    • 3

Turn your CPU around so you have access to all the plug-ins you need.

    • 4

Go back to your pile of cords and instructions that you set aside earlier. Find the one that goes with your color monitor and plug one side into the back of the color monitor and one side in the back of the CPU. Follow suit with the mouse and keyboard. The backs of the CPU on most newer computers have each port labeled with which component plugs in to it.

    • 5

Plug the power cords in the color monitor and CPU. Then, turn on the power switches and start enjoying your computer with color monitor.

Tips & Warnings

  • More than likely, the color, brightness and contrast on a new color monitor will be set just right. However, if it needs to be adjusted, most monitors have one to four buttons on it that you can use to adjust the monitor settings.
